“IT’S A REPUBLIC,
IF YOU CAN KEEP IT…”

-Benjamin Franklin

U.S. Constitution Week is observed annually September 17-23 in honor of the original signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, during the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was ratified in 1788 and operationalized in 1789. As the world’s longest surviving written charter of government, the first three words, “We the People,” underscore the fact that the United States federal government was purposefully designed to ensure that it served its citizens – not the other way around.

Flag Retirement Ceremony and Hamburger BBQ

Hosted by BSA Troop 88 and Troop 888

Time: 5-6:30 p.m. Fundraising Hamburger BBQ (donations accepted); 6:45 Flag Retirement Ceremony; Location: American Legion 109; 624 Ash Street, Windsor, CO; open to the public; register here: https://forms.gle/gq8ujoQithY6mHfy7

Join Windsor's Scouting America Troop 88 and Troop 888 for a fundraising dinner of grilled hamburgers from 5:00-6:30pm followed by a flag retirement ceremony at 6:45pm.  This is a dignified and solemn ceremony where flags that are no longer fit for display are disposed of by burning in fire.  If you have never experienced a flag retirement, it is a solemn affair that offers reflection and respect for our flag and the history, ideals and values it represents.  Scouts are one of only a few groups that are allowed to conduct flag retirements.
